OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS
| The Board of Directors of Spokane Public Schools
is composed of five citizens publicly elected to represent the
community in setting policies and directing school programs.
Members are volunteers who serve in staggered six-year terms.
School board members must be citizens of the United States,
be qualified voters residing in the district, and have the ability
to read and write the English language. For more information,

Garret
J. Daggett • President
Appointed
June 2005 • Term expires November 2011
Garret J. Daggett, currently president, was appointed to the board in June 2005 to complete
an unexpired term. He was elected in November 2005. Over the past
five years, Daggett has served as an advisor to the Board of Directors
as a member of the Instructional Equity Citizens’ Advisory
Committee and the Diversity Advisory Council (DAC). He served as
chair-elect of the DAC Executive Council, during the 2003-04 school
year and as co-chair of the DAC, during the 2004-05 school year.
Daggett holds a B.A. in Fine Arts, with a minor in Communications,
from Allegheny College and served seven years in the United States
Air Force. He is currently employed as Utility Relations Manager
with Avista Advantage. Daggett is active in the community through
his involvement on various committees, including his service for
the past five years as chair of the Unity in the Community Celebration
& Planning Committee. In addition, he has formerly served as
a member of the Spokane Task Force on Race Relations and the Spokane
Area Chamber Workforce Diversity Committee. He has three children.

Rocco N. Treppiedi • Vice President and Legislative
Liaison

Rocco N. “Rocky” Treppiedi, currently vice president and legislative
liaison, was appointed in March of 1996 to complete an unexpired
term. He was elected to the position in November 1997, and has
served twice as school board president. A graduate of the John
Jay College of Criminal Justice and the Gonzaga University School
of Law, Treppiedi is an attorney for the City of Spokane. He
has served the Spokane Legal Services Center, Spokane Project Self
Sufficiency, the Washington SIDS Foundation, and the Downtown Exchange
Club Foundation as president, and is involved in various youth,
professional, and community activities. Treppiedi has served on
the Parent Advisory Committee at Woodridge, Salk, and Shadle Park,
and on the district’s
Gifted Education Parent Advisory Committee. He is also the board
representative with the Washington Interscholastic Activities
Association. Treppiedi’s
three children graduated from Spokane Public Schools. Expiration
of term: November 2009.
Susan
S. Chapin • Board Member

Sue Chapin was appointed to the board in January 2007 to complete an unexpired term. She was elected in November 2007. Selected as a Volunteer of the Year for 2004-2005, she has volunteered with the district since 1999 in a number of roles: as a PTG member at Hamblen Elementary, a parent representative of the Libby Center Site Council, a levy campaign representative, an alternate on the SPS Human Growth and Development Committee, and PTG president and fund-raising chair of the Odyssey Program. Chapin also served as Ferris’ representative to the Citizens Advisory Committee, as a member of the Principal’s Advisory Committee for Ferris, and as a member of the Gifted Education Parent Advisory Committee. Chapin is currently employed as Infection Control Coordinator at Sacred Heart Medical Center. She was a CampFire USA club leader and board member for the Spokane AIDS network. A Washington State University graduate, Chapin has been a registered nurse for 28 years. Her two children attend Spokane Public Schools and she graduated from Ferris herself. Expiration of term: November 2013.
Robert H. Douthitt • Board

Robert H. Douthitt was elected to the board in November 2007. As an attorney with Lukins & Annis from 1981-1999, Douthitt was a member of the executive committee of the Washington State Bar Association’s business law section for a number of years. He started Great Clips in Spokane in 1994, watching it grow to 15 salons with 140 employees before selling it in 2007. In the past, Douthitt served on the board of directors of Holy Family Adult Day Centers, the American Cancer Society and Chase Youth Foundation. He also served on committees for the Dominican Network and Spokane Chamber of Commerce, was a member of Spokane Downtown Rotary, and served on the franchisee advisory board for Great Clips, Inc. All three of his children graduated from Spokane Public Schools. Expiration of term: November 2013.
Christie R. Querna • Board Member

Christie R. Querna was elected to
the board in November 1995. A University of Washington graduate
and former teacher, public relations writer, and freelance author
of children’s books, Querna has served as chair of the district’s
Gifted Education Parent Advisory Committee and of the Human Growth
and Development Citizens Advisory Committee. She has also served
on the district’s Leadership Team, the Chase Middle
School Boundary Committee, as president of the Hutton Elementary
PTA, as a member of the Lewis and Clark Booster Club Board, and
as past chair of the Washington State School Directors’ Association
Urban Issues Committee. Formerly a member of WSSDA’s Achievement
Gap Task Force, she currently serves on the People’s Clinic
Board and the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile Board. Querna has served
as board president twice. Her three children graduated from Spokane
Public Schools. Expiration of term: November 2009.
Kate Hellenthal, student advisor,
was appointed in the summer of 2007. She is a senior at Lewis and
Clark High School and volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters,
is a peer mediator at LC and a member of Youth Leadership Spokane.
She is interested in history and current affairs and “virtually
anything that has to do with what is going on in the world.” Expiration
of term: July 2008.
Anna Shives, student advisor, was appointed in the summer
of 2007. She is a junior at Shadle Park High School and is a member
of Shadle’s
dance and volleyball teams and of the National Honor Society.
She maintains a 4.0 GPA while taking all honors courses, and enjoys
being active in the community. Expiration of term: July 2008. |
