CHASE DISCIPLINE GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS -

Clothing and accessories

Rights and responsibilities - Appropriate and inappropriate - Consequences

The Chase staff tries hard to balance the needs of students to express themselves, while maintaining an atmosphere of learning that is free of disruption. At Chase we are committed to excellence in the classroom and in the halls.  Please take a moment to look over our dress code.

Students' Rights

Students may dress and groom themselves in any manner that is not disruptive to the educational environment or dangerous to themselves or others.

Students’ Responsibilities

Chase Chargers dress and exhibit grooming appropriate for the educational activity and  follow the dictates of good taste.  Student attire (tops, skirts, pants) should cover the student’s undergarments and entire torso.  Belts, on pants, need to be properly secured.  Students should not wear anything that is illegal, immoral or that promotes drug and alcohol use, violence or sexual activity.  In certain educational settings, students may be required to wear safety devices or uniforms that insure the student’s safety and/or unrestricted movement.

Preamble: If a student’s dress is disruptive to teaching or learning at Chase, then it will be deemed inappropriate.

CLOTHING THAT MAY BE DEEMED INAPPROPRIATE:

  • see-through tops
  • half-shirts
  • exposed underwear
  • cleavage showing
  • belly shirts or torso-viewing clothes
  • slippers
  • pajamas-bottoms or tops
  • sagging pants so underwear can be seen
  • hats, hoods, or head coverings (bandannas, sweat bands, do-rags, etc.) are not to be worn in the building

CONSEQUENCES

Chase representatives reserve the right to judge whether an item of apparel and/or an accessory poses a safety hazard.  In addition, the administration has the responsibility to maintain a safe, healthy, and positive educational environment, and therefore reserves the right to make the determination if any other types of personal appearance may disrupt the learning process.

1st offense:  Student will be issued an alternative piece of clothing, or asked to change into more appropriate attire (if a student refuses to cooperate, progressive discipline or another form or consequence will be imposed). In the case of an item or accessory, it will be confiscated and returned at the end of the day.

2nd offense: The clothing or accessory will be confiscated and not returned until a parent or guardian comes to the school to pick it up. Progressive Discipline will be imposed.

3rd offense: The clothing or accessory will be confiscated for the remainder of the year.  Progressive discipline will be imposed.
