HARASSMENT
Chase Middle School is committed to the creation of a positive school
climate and therefore has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY against harassment.
Any student who engages in physical, verbal, social, or emotional
harassment that occurs over a period of time will be guilty of BULLYING
and/or INTIMIDATION. Harassment occurring on school grounds during the
school day, or off school grounds at a school activity or event MAY BE
GROUNDS FOR DISCIPLINE.
1st
offense: Warning, conference with counselor or administrator,
possible mediation with victim.
2nd offense: In-school suspension from one to three days,, parent
and administrator conference, contract with the victim.
3rd
offense:
Out-of-school suspension for 3 to 10 days.
4th
offense:
Out-of-school suspension for 11 to 90 days.
STUDENT ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG USE/ABUSE
We all
recognize that the use/abuse of alcohol, narcotics, and other drugs
represents a real health danger. It also interferes with the educational
process and contributes to disruptive behavior in school. We are
committed to keeping Chase a safe, drug-free school. Students will not
possess, use, deliver, sell, or offer to sell any illicit drugs or
alcohol. Further, students will not be in possession of drug
paraphernalia. This expectation is a top priority for all members of the
Chase educational community and will be rigorously enforced. Violation
of this policy will result in immediate disciplinary action as follows:
POSSESSION OR USE OF ALCOHOL OR ILLICIT DRUGS
FIRST
OFFENSE: Mandatory two-day out-of-school suspension AND
agreement to complete a four-session educational intervention class or
agreement to complete an assessment by a certified drug/alcohol
counselor. Failure to complete the intervention class or agree to
assessment will result in an additional five-day out-of-school
suspension.
SECOND
OFFENSE WITHIN THE NEXT TWO YEARS:
Mandatory long-term
out-of-school suspension.
THIRD OFFENSE
WITHIN THE NEXT TWO YEARS:
Expulsion from all Spokane
Public Schools.
DISTRIBUTE, SELL, OR OFFER TO SELL ALCOHOL, NARCOTICS, OR ILLICIT DRUGS
FIRST
OFFENSE:
Expulsion from all Spokane
Public Schools.
SMOKING
State law
forbids the use of tobacco products at any time in the school building
or on school grounds. This applies to all school-sponsored activities as
well as the regular school day.
FIRST
OFFENSE: Parent conference,
short-term out-of-school suspension, referral to SAS for counseling,
agreement to participate in a two-session tobacco education intervention
program.
SECOND
OFFENSE: Parent conference,
short-term out-of-school suspension (up to
10 days), referral to SAS for counseling.
THIRD OFFENSE:
Long-term out-of-school
suspension.
