School board sets levy date
At their regular meeting last night, the Spokane Public Schools board of directors voted to set March 14, 2006 as the date for a special election to renew the district’s expiring educational program levy.
The levy provides roughly $50 million per year for Spokane Public Schools, helping the district provide the type of education the community has come to expect for its students.
Because the state does not fully fund basic education for students, school districts across the state run levies to pay for everything the state doesn’t – things like textbooks, music, art, drama, debate, athletics and smaller class sizes, as well as librarians, custodians and counselors.
