The annual North Side rivalry between North Central and Shadle Park's basketball teams for the coveted Groovy Shoes begins this afternoon with cons at each school to get students fired up before the games.

North Central's con, with the theme "School of Rock," starts at about 1:45 p.m., and will feature appearances by such rockers as Joan Jett, AC/DC, Elvis, the Beatles and KISS. Shadle's "Got Game?"- themed con, decorated with parts and pieces of various board games, starts at 1:25 p.m.

Each will feature high-energy drill team performances and hundreds of wildly enthusiastic students learning special cheers.

The girls basketball game starts at 3:45 p.m.
