SPS program earns Magna Award
The American School Board Journal recently selected the Spokane
Public Schools’ collaborative time program to receive honorable
mention in the 2006 Magna Awards recognition program. The Magna
Awards honor innovation and excellence in school governance from
districts throughout the United States. Spokane Public Schools’ collaborative
time program was one of only six chosen for special recognition
out of 320 entries. The collaborative time program will be cited,
along with the other winning programs, in a special supplement
to the April 2006 issue of the American School Board Journal.
Collaborative
time was developed jointly by Spokane Public Schools, Spokane
Public Schools’ board of directors and the Spokane Education Association
in 2003. The three groups felt that teachers needed time to work
together to focus on strategies for improvement.
