SPS recognized for excellence in financial practices

For the second year in a row, both the Association of School Business Officials International and the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada have awarded Spokane Public Schools their highest achievements in school finances and financial reporting.

These two separate awards, given to the district for its 2004 comprehensive annual financial report, represent Spokane Public Schools’ commitment to high standards and keeping a careful eye on the use of taxpayer dollars.

“We take the management of our school district’s budget and fiscal practices very seriously, in order to be good stewards of our community’s investment in educating Spokane’s young people,” said Superintendent Brian Benzel. “And we are indeed fortunate to have some of the best school budget and accounting administrators in the state and nation overseeing the district’s finances.”
