The Maintenance Department has complete Carpentry, Paint and Furniture repair
shops, as well as Electrical, Plumbing and Steamfitter shops
(Steamfitters are the people that maintain the heating, ventilation
and air conditioning systems). The building also contains
a Welding shop, Locksmith shop, Glazing shop, and Mechanics
shop. Our District mechanics repair and maintain over
150 vehicles, including trucks, vans, sedans, trailers and
heavy equipment (such as back-hoes, forklifts and boom trucks).
These folks are also responsible for the maintenance of snow-blowers,
lawnmowers, trimmers, weed-eaters and other grounds keeping
equipment. Our grounds crew provides care and maintenance
for 310 developed acres and 72 undeveloped acres. This
work includes mowing, edging, aerating, weed control and removal
of organic debris and litter. Finally our Support Operators
group provides various types of support to the other craftsmen.
They operate heavy equipment, work with jackhammers, cut concrete,
move large or heavy items and perform many other vital functions.
The newest
shop at the maintenance facility is the Energy Management
Systems group. The EMS group manages networked lighting,
heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems at 54 district
facilities. They control these systems through centralized
computer monitoring. This allows them to program each
location for the most efficient operation and greatest degree
of occupant comfort. They can remotely program temperatures,
or turn systems off during unoccupied hours, as well as pre-program
schedules for holidays and special events. In a very
short period of time, this group has saved the school district
many thousands of dollars in energy consumption.
