Graduation Requirements

The Culminating Project is a graduation requirement in the State of Washington that challenges students to demonstrate and display mastery of skills acquired during their academic careers. It supports the following Washington State Learning Goals:

  • Goal 3: Think analytically, logically, and creatively, and integrate experience and knowledge to form reasoned judgments and solve problems.
  • Goal 4: Understand the importance of work and how performance, effort, and decisions affect career and educational opportunities.

Whether you are planning on entering the work force immediately after high school or entering after you complete some formal training and/or education, we know that effective communication–oral and written–is necessary. We also know that citizens must be able to reason critically, acquire information and use it to form conclusions, work well with people, demonstrate honest and ethical behavior, and use the resource of time effectively. You will practice these important qualities and demonstrate proficiency throughout the process of your Culminating Project.

The Culminating Project is a journey for you in self-awareness. This project is about you—you own it, personalize it to your life and your interests. The best part is that you pick the topic! You are almost unlimited in your choices as long as your selection is approved by school personnel and acknowledged by your parents/guardians. Be sure to choose wisely since it needs to be connected to a Focused Area of Study (FASt), interest or hobby that can be thoroughly researched, or a social problem/issue with community service.

Most of all… stretch your learning to a new level and follow your dreams.
