The Presentation

Guidelines:
Now you are ready to present your project and all of its components to a panel of judges. This is your time to strut your stuff! You are going to prove to a panel of judges that you reached your goal and learned what you wanted to learn. Your Portfolio will be given to the judges ahead of time so they are familiar with your project. Your Proposal Letter, which is the first thing, is an introduction of you and your project to the judges. They will read your letter so that they can later decide if you accomplished your “learning stretch’ and completed the necessary components. Your professional, organized, and completed portfolio needs to be approved by your English teacher in order to set up a date for the presentation.
The panel of judges will consist of at least 2 members from Ferris High School and/or the community. These judges will read and preview your portfolio before your presentation so they are familiar with you and your project. They will communicate in a timely manner with the Culminating Project Building Coordinator if there are any concerns raised after reviewing the portfolio. When everything is approved, you and the judges will schedule a presentation time. You will demonstrate to them what you did and what you learned during your project. They will use a rubric to offer feedback and assessment.

This presentation is a professional experience for all. You will be prepared for this event, as will the judges. After having practiced your presentation, you should receive feedback on your presentation skills and content.

Before the presentation you will:

  • Complete and organize your portfolio.
  • Prepare all parts of your presentation.
  • Give the portfolio to your English teacher two weeks before the presentation so they may review it. Make sure the Proposal Letter is on the top, in perfect condition, so that the judges may read it and get to know you and your project.
  • Practice your presentation and seek advice.
  • Practice your presentation on your peers and/or family and in front of a mirror.

    At the Presentation you will:

  • Arrive early.
  • Dress appropriately for your presentation.
  • Bring necessary materials, such as your product, results from your performance, visuals, etc.
  • Make sure all technology and other required presentation aids are ready and working.
  • Introduce yourself and your project as a whole.
  • Explain what your goal for the project was and how you reached it.
  • Define your learning stretch and explain what you learned.
  • Remember. This project is about YOU and you are the star of this show. Be proud of what you have done and remember that who YOU are and what YOU learned are of importance here. The judges are excited to see what you have done and how you learned. Speak in a strong voice with confidence and clarity. Slow down and make sure you are heard.
