4-6 STUDENT CONTENT STANDARDS

 

Components of Fitness

  1. Develop and demonstrate an awareness of aerobic endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility as it relates to their health and fitness so they can perform to health related standards.
  2. Understand and apply body composition as a component of their total fitness and health lifestyle.
  3. Understand the components of fitness.
  4. Understand and apply the components of fitness by self-testing in the fitness test, taking written tests, and by monitored practice.

Activities & Safety

  1. Participate in a variety of basic skills, lifetime activities, and team or individual sports to reinforce the health related fitness components as they apply to their total individual wellness.
  2. Demonstrate rules and proper safety procedures while participating in health related physical activities.
  3. Review and experience goal setting as it relates to the fitness test (i.e., students will set specific goals relating to each area of the fitness test).
  4. Demonstrate and understand sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, enjoyment, and fun in managing emotional and social well being.

Nutrition and Diet

  1. Review and expand knowledge of six food groups (i.e., games, activities, projects, and assessments).
  2. Review and expand knowledge of food guide pyramid (i.e., servings, portion sizes, and nutrition quality of different foods).
  3. Review and expand knowledge of nutrient sources and their relationship to performance and health.
  4. Review and expand knowledge of health risk factors (i.e., choices of diet, consequences of diet, exercise, drugs, and lifestyles).
  5. Review and expand consumer knowledge (i.e., learn to read nutritional charts/labels, advertising, fad diets).

Social & Emotional

  1. Students will demonstrate enjoyment of fitness and health classes while participating in a wide variety of activities such as small sided games, lifetime activities, and successful movement experiences.
  2. By setting realistic attainable personal goals, students will be able to relate what their current fitness level is to self-improvement and minimum health related fitness standards.
  3. The students will demonstrate good leadership by setting good examples, modeling appropriate behavior, and following rules with positive encouragement for others.
  4. Students will encourage fair play by setting good examples using positive reinforcement and showing a good attitude while knowing how to win and lose.
  5. Students will demonstrate teamwork by participating in cooperative activities, developing partners skills, showing respect, and accepting diversity with a variety of cultures.

Technology

  1. Review and learn the basic use of available fitness technology to monitor personal fitness levels.
