K-3 STUDENT CONTENT STANDARDS
Components
of Fitness
- Develop
and demonstrate an awareness of aerobic endurance, muscular
strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility as it relates
to their health and fitness so they can perform to health
related standards.
- Understand
how height and weight will effect their body composition
as it relates to their total fitness, health, and performance
in physical activity.
- Understand
the components of fitness.
Activities
& Safety
- Develop
physical skills (locomotor, nonlocomotor, and manipulative)
that contribute to health and fitness.
- Develop
fitness awareness and vocabulary while participating in
basic skills, lifetime activities, and team or individual
sports.
- Demonstrate
rules and proper safety procedures while participating in
health related fitness activities.
- Introduce
and understand fitness goal setting as it relates to the
fitness test.
- Begin to
understand and demonstrate sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership,
enjoyment, and fun in managing social and emotional well
being.
Nutrition
and Diet
- Introduce
the six food groups.
- Introduce
the food guide pyramid.
- Introduce
the six food nutrients of water, fats, proteins, carbohydrates,
vitamins, and minerals.
- Introduce
health risk factors.
- Introduce
consumer knowledge.
Social
& Emotional
- Students
will demonstrate enjoyment of fitness and health classes
while participating in a wide variety of activities such
as small sided games, lifetime activities, and successful
movement experiences.
- By setting
realistic attainable personal goals, students will learn
to evaluate and challenge themselves toward personal improvement.
- The students
will demonstrate good leadership by setting good examples,
modeling appropriate behavior, and following rules with
positive encouragement for others.
- Students
will demonstrate the importance of fair play, sharing, caring,
empathy, and being respectful while following established
rules.
- Students
will demonstrate teamwork by participating in cooperative
activities, developing partners skills, showing respect,
and accepting diversity with a variety of cultures.
Technology
- Introduce
and learn basic use of available fitness technology to monitor
personal fitness levels.
