Grading Information
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Please take
a few minutes to read this very important letter. Things are
changing in PE! We are now Fitness and Health.
First, our
emphasis is changing across the district. We are shifting
from Physical Education to Fitness and Health. This change
comes at a time when we feel strongly that our mission is
to educate our students to the importance of lifetime activities
that promote their fitness and health. This change is also
lined up with our state essential academic learning standards
for health and fitness.
Secondly,
our district has adopted a new grading procedure for physical
education for all 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. They will receive
an effort grade and achievement grade for each trimester.
They will
receive an effort grade each trimester for their performance
in the following areas: accepting personal responsibility,
participation in fitness and unit activities, positive attitude
to include cooperation, respect, tolerance, demonstrating
safe behaviors, and proper use of equipment.
The achievement
grade will be a letter grade based on student performance
in physical fitness, skill development, health concepts, and
fitness and health related vocabulary words. Please note that
the fitness test grades will be based on completion of the
test, not on individual student scores.
We believe
the new emphasis of our program will teach our students to
make healthy choices toward lifetime fitness. Thank you for
your support and cooperation in helping us achieve the new
goals for our fitness and health program so that all students
can be successful!
Accompanying
this letter is a complete outline of the new grading procedure.

please call your elementary fitness and health specialist.
