The first trimester has been completed and conferences are underway. As part of the evaluation process, the kids have been working on writing assessments, part of which included a short story.
To celebrate the completion of the assessment, Mrs. Jordan's class had an old fashioned tea party complete with tea (decaffeinated of course), cream and sugar to go with it, and some very yummy cookies. A big thanks to Samantha Russell and Cassie's grandma for providing the tea and treats!
During the tea party Tama explained that it was customary for people in the colonial era to take a break each afternoon to have tea and pastries. The kids were each given a feather pen to commemorate the event. While everyone enjoyed their tea and cookies, student's shared their short stories with the class. I was amazed at the creativity, depth of thought, and vivid descriptions that were used. We have a fantastic group of writer's in our class!

OLD JEANS NEEDED BY X-MAS BREAK!
Yoene Palmer has graciously agreed to make chair pockets for us. These will be fun and funky supply holders made out of old jeans. In order for her to make them, we need the jeans! We are asking each family to bring in at least one pair of adult jeans. We will need a total of 27 pairs. They do not need to be new and do not need to be in great shape . If you have more than one pair to donate that would be fantastic. If we are short on donations the jeans will have to be purchased from a thrift shop. Please drop your jeans off with Tama or send them with your student NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 14TH. Please remember, they need to be adult size jeans so that they will fit over the chair back.

The students have each been assigned a Solar System Pocket Book Project that ties in to their current science unit, Space/The Solar System. Instructions for the project were given to kids last week and are on a gold colored paper. Please take a few minutes to read the instructions and discuss the project with your student. Encourage them to make a timeline for completion and discuss strategies that will help them complete the project on time. The project is due December 3 rd. I will send a copy of the instructions to you via email in case the paper copy is misplaced.
