SPRING IS HERE!
What’s New or Happening....
EXECUTIVE
COMMITTEE OPENING
Nominations are being taken for next school
year's TWO open executive committee positions. The terms are June to June
and September to September. Nominations will be given at the APPLE Action
meeting on Tuesday night with voting occurring at our last APPLE Action meeting
of the year in May. If you are interested in what some the responsibilities are
of being on the Executive Committee, call Duane Sunwold, Nancy Janzen or Darla
Eaton.
AUCTION
RECEIPTS
Please turn in your receipts from the Auction
if you still have expenses that need to be reimbursed. We are unable to complete
our final tally of net proceeds without all expenses being turned in. Please
also turn in your receipt with an expense form. These are available in the core
area behind Beth Calkin's room.
CLASSROOM
COORDINATORS MEETING
There will be a Classroom Coordinator meeting
at 6:30 before the APPLE Action meeting on Tuesday. Please make sure one of the
Coordinators for your classroom is present. We have several important items to
cover.
ENROLLMENT
2004/2005
The enrollment for 2004 – 05 is now
complete. The lottery has already taken place and the new families have been
notified. We’ll have the names of the new families in next months newsletter!
EXECUTIVE
MEETING
The Executive Meetings are held the Tuesday
before every Apple Action Meeting. The meeting is for ALL Committee
Chairs, Standing Positions, classroom coordinators and the Executive members.
They are from 7-9pm. The next meeting will be on May 11th. A place
will be announced prior to that time. If you can’t attend it is your
responsibility to find someone from your committee to attend.
THANK
YOU!
The Auction Committee would like to extend a
heartfelt thank you to all the families and friends who donated their energy,
time, and money to the auction to make it our most successful auction ever. You
made your kids proud! We will have more auction details at the meeting on April
20th.
KARAOKE AND ETHNIC POTLUCK NIGHT
Mark your calendars now! June 1st
at the Franklin Gym we are having a fun night of Karaoke, games and an Ethnic
Potluck. This is the final Event from the Celebrations Committee. In the past
the 6th graders have always done a Karaoke video at the Fair. Since
we didn’t go to the fair this year we decided to make a Karaoke Night so that
they will be able to have their video. So this year each grade is going to sing
a song, Karaoke style and it will be recorded for families to purchase a copy.
Cutaway Video will do the recording (Lisa Regehr). The cost is $5.00 and Cutaway
Video will donate $2.00 of it back to the APPLE Program.
We are asking families to dig into their cook
books for some Ethnic foods for the Potluck. Now is the time to try one of those
recipes you’ve always wanted to! This is going to be a night filled with
laughter and maybe some tears as we also say goodbye to our outgoing 6th
grade families!
SPRING
EVENT
The all Apple Spring Event is fast
approaching! There will be lots of information regarding this fabulous event
this coming Tuesday at our Apple Action Meeting. The dates to mark on your
calendar are May 20th and 21st. This is an over night
camping trip at Camp Reed.

Becky Davis
opened with an announcement that the open house was very well attended. They are
in need of 3 people to help lead tours for new families. March 1st at
9:10 am, March 3rd all day, and March 5th in the afternoon
are the slots needed. This involves a general tour; show of 3 classrooms,
library, gym, and playground. Each takes about 10 minutes. Contact Lori Naylor
if you can help. On March 9th is the official "meet and
greet" which is the final step for interested families. Lottery is March 30th
at Franklin Elementary.
CAC update: They are still meeting each month. School closure has been
tabled for 2 years, due to Fairchild expansion. They will continue to discuss
and vote on the budget. Again it is stressed that petitioning our
representatives on our budget concerns is the best way to make a difference.
Merrie Dehmer
notified us that the spring event date has been changed because it conflicted
with the 6th grade overnighter. It has been changed to May 20th
and 21st. She stated that 1 adult per family is required to attend,
and that siblings may join for a nominal fee-to be announced later. Buses will
leave from Franklin on Thursday at 9 am, and is approximately a 1 ½ hour drive.
All kids will have jobs, such as food prep and cleanup. The theme is Lewis and
Clark. There will be folk dancing and a bon fire with story telling. Buses will
leave the next day around 2pm. If you have experience with anything that can be
presented on this subject; for example-making soap or dying fabric-please
contact Merrie so she can arrange for materials. Also, if you snore, let her
know, as there will be a segregated snorer’s cabin…
Dawnelle Shaw
shared that the auction invitations have gone out. There are extras in the core
room, if you would like to invite any one else. Tickets have been sent home.
Make sure that you leave a message with Karon Silva-Sanborn, so she can record
that they have been received. Please fill out your name and address of the guest
attending, so the database can be kept up. As an apple parent, you need to
purchase your own ticket, if you are attending. Please return all of the money
and remaining tickets that were not sold to the office by March 13th.
If you are feeling generous, you may buy all your tickets and donate them back
to the school so others, including other teachers may attend.
Greg Buckley-Jones,
with the PR committee, is still collecting Apple photos for presentation at the
auction. He is intending on showing them at half time. Remember if you are
sending individual pictures of students that he needs a permission form signed
by the parent.
Lisa Eaton
announced that all the auction jobs have been filled, except for one. Darla
passed out the job descriptions to the parents who had already signed up. Angie
Hayes is pleased with the auction items procured thus far. She listed many
cool items for the loud auction. She also mentioned that many parents had not
turned in any auction info yet, and that it is not time to let up. She reminded
us that this auction will be fun. If you have any random small items, she will
be holding a basket party to make new items. If you have anything to contribute,
including baskets, please get in touch with her. Remember 2 hours per item and
to bring your stuff down to the Rendezvous by 11am the day of the auction.
Darla wrapped up the auction talk with a few more specifics.
One final word from
the events committee, June 1st there will be a karaoke event. Each
class will select a song. There will be games for tournaments and a Ethnic food
potluck.
