FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - Educational Support Personnel
What if I don't have a resume?
You will need to prepare one.
What is on a resume?
Name, address, phone number, education, work history (please be detailed
so that we can compare to the position we are trying to fill). Also may
include any volunteer work that you have done (examples, schools, Boy
Scouts, Camp Fire, churches, community organizations).
Does it need to be professionally prepared?
No. There are good reference materials at the library on how to prepare.
Can it be handwritten or does it need to be typed?
Typed is preferable, but we will accept a handwritten resume so long
as it is legible.
How many letters of reference do I need?
We recommend at least two or three. Letters should be from current
or previous employers speaking to the experience you've had relative to
the requirements and qualifications listed on the job posting.
What if I don't have any letters of reference?
You will need to get some.
Who can I get them from?
Professional letters of reference from past supervisors are preferred,
but if you have not worked at all, you are welcome to turn in personal
character letters of reference.
Can they send them to me or do they need to send them to the district?
We will accept photo copies of letters. They do not need to be originals.
If they send them directly to you, you will be able to make a copy and
keep the original for future use. If they send them directly to us we
will not be able to make a copy of the letter for you.
My letters are old.
We need current letters, if at all possible.
The company I work for will not do letters (per company policy).
If they prepared a written evaluation on an annual basis, a copy of
the most recent evaluations might be helpful. You may also obtain letters
from previous employers, personal character letters, or letters of reference
relating to volunteer work.
The job is closing and I cannot get the letters by then can I still
apply?
Yes, you can still apply, however, if you turn in materials after
the job closing date, you will be considered a "late applicant"
and your information won't be reviewed for interview purposes. After
selected candidates are interviewed, and if no one is selected, we will
then go to the "late applicant" pool. Also, the letters will
be in your file for the next position you apply for.
How soon after a job closes do you fill it?
We try to have the files reviewed, interviews held and a job offer made
within two weeks of closing.
I have applied for several positions and not been interviewed.
The district receives numerous applications for each vacant position,
and is unable to interview all applicants. You can call Pam
Hinderleider at 354-5980 who may be able to answer your questions
over the phone or make an appointment to review your file with you.
I have applied for several positions. Have they been filled?
If you know the posting number, call Pam
Hinderleider at 354-5980, who will be able to tell you the status
for each individual job. |
