Elementary Learning Targets
1st GRADE FITNESS

 

(Taught by Fitness & Health Specialist)

  By the end of 1st grade, your child will be able to:

Apply Movement Skills, Fitness & Health, Nutrition

  • Demonstrate mature form and control in locomotor activities (i.e., skipping, hopping, galloping and sliding)
  • Identify and demonstrate fundamental skills and movement concepts (i.e., balancing, striking an object, space and direction)
  • Engage in moderate to vigorous structured physical activity
  • Introduce nutrition concepts (i.e., food pyramid)

Think Analytically, Logically, Creatively

  • Recognize the physiological signs of moderate physical activity (i.e., fast heart rate, rapid breathing)
  • Apply, with teacher reinforcement, classroom rules, procedures and safe practices
  • Recognize that skill development requires practice

Understand, Demonstrate, Communicate

  • Participate in activities that require some physical exertion and/or skill development, outside the regularly scheduled Fitness & Health class (i.e., minimum 40 minutes each week with classroom teacher)

Acquire and Use Concepts of Equity and Diversity

  • Interact with students, by sharing space and equipment, regardless of personal differences (i.e., race, gender, disability)

Incorporate Innovative Technologies

  • Integrate a variety of technologies (when available) as it applies to improving content learning, and the learning of specific skills (i.e., can launch an application program, video camera/recorder)

Apply Fitness & Health Concepts

  • Identify activities in Fitness & Health that are enjoyable
  • Identify employment possibilities in the field of Fitness & Health and related areas
