By the end of 2nd grade, your child will be able to:

Movement Skills, Fitness & Health, Nutrition
- Demonstrate
mature motor patterns in simple combinations (i.e. dribbling
while running, rhythms).
- Demonstrate
control in fundamental skills and movement concepts (i.e.
weight bearing and balance activities on a variety of body
parts).
- Engage
in moderate to vigorous structured physical activity
- Introduce
nutrition concepts (i.e., food pyramid)
Think
Analytically, Logically, Creatively
- Identify
the components of health-related physical fitness (i.e.,
cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance,
flexibility and body composition).
- Engage
in and recognize the physiological indicators that accompany
moderate to vigorous physical activity (i.e., sweating,
increased heart rate, rapid breathing).
- Demonstrate
listening skills by following directions and using feedback
to improve performance.
Understand,
Demonstrate, Communicate
- Participate
in activities that require some physical exertion and/or
skill development, outside the regularly scheduled Fitness
& Health class with a specialist (i.e., minimum 40 minutes
each week with classroom teacher)
Acquire
and Use Concepts of Equity and Diversity
- Work with
others resolving conflicts, to complete an assigned task,
regardless of personal differences (i.e., gender, ethnicity,
disability).
- Try and
practice new activities, interacting with all people, in
a manner which demonstrates dignity, respect, and responsibility
through physical activity.
Incorporate
Innovative Technologies
- Integrate
a variety of technologies (when available) as it applies
to improving content learning, and the learning of specific
skills (i.e., can launch an application program, video camera/recorder)
Apply
Fitness & Health Concepts
- Identify
and experience activities in Fitness & Health that are
enjoyable
- Identify
employment possibilities in the field of Fitness & Health
and related areas
