Elementary Learning Targets
4th GRADE FITNESS (Taught by Fitness & Health Specialist)

 

  By the end of 4th grade, your child will be able to:

Apply Movement Skills, Fitness & Health, Nutrition

  • Demonstrate mature motor patterns for the basic locomotor, non locomotor, manipulative skills, and combined movement skills (i.e., dribbles and passes a basketball to a moving receiver, jumps and lands for height/distance using mature form).
  • Apply basic elements to improve personal performance in fundamental and selected specialized motor skills (i.e., a ball passed in front of a moving player, the lower the center of gravity the more stable an object).
  • Recognize the effects of proper nutrition on personal health and performance in physical activity (i.e., water and carbohydrate intake).

Think Analytically, Logically, Creatively

  • Identify several moderate to vigorous physical activities, related to each component of physical fitness, that provide personal pleasure.
  • Follow, with few reminders, activity-specific rules, procedures, and game etiquette.

Understand, Demonstrate, Communicate

  • Recognize personal successes and achievements from involvement in physical activity.
  • Participate in activities that require some physical exertion and/or skill development, outside the regularly scheduled Fitness & Health class (i.e., minimum 40 minutes each week with classroom teacher).

Acquire and Use Concepts of Equity and Diversity

  • Include, participate with, and show respect for persons of like and different skill levels, regardless of personal differences (i.e., gender, ethnicity, disability).
  • Explore our shared national culture through participation in various games, dances, and physical activities.

Incorporate Innovative Technologies

  • Integrate a variety of technologies (when available) as it applies to physical management, improving content learning, and the learning of the specific skills (i.e., video camera/recorder, insert data for self-improvement analysis).

Apply Fitness & Health Concepts

  • Select and participate regularly in physical activities for the purpose of improving skill and health.
  • Identify and compare employment possibilities in the field of Fitness & Health and related areas.
