7th GRADE FITNESS & HEALTH (Taught by Fitness & Health Specialist)

 

  By the end of 7th grade, your child will be able to:

Apply Movement Skills, Physical Fitness, Nutrition

  • Demonstrate competence in modified versions of a variety of movement forms using the skill themes of throwing/catching, striking with body parts, striking with objects, body transport, body management, physical fitness, and dance.
  • Participate in the health related physical fitness test and identify the fitness components (i.e., cardiovascular, flexibility, upper body strength).
  • Understand and apply the basic elements of dietary guidelines for a healthy lifestyle (i.e., proper nutrition, food pyramid).

Think Analytically, Logically, Creatively

  • Identify physiological indicators of exercise during and after physical activity (i.e., heart rate, fatigue).
  • Analyze potential consequences when confronted with a behavior choice (i.e., peer pressure, conflict resolution).

Understand, Demonstrate, Communicate

  • Participate cooperatively and safely, in activity specific rules, in competitive as well as cooperative settings.
  • Recognize the benefits of health-enhancing physical activity, both in and out of the physical education class (i.e., contentment, enjoyment).

Acquire and Use Concepts of Equity and Diversity

  • Identify behaviors that are supportive and inclusive in a diverse physical activity setting (i.e., sportsmanship, attitude, respect and dignity.)

Incorporate Innovative Technologies

  • Use a variety of technologies as it applies to physical management (i.e., video, pulse rate monitor, pedometer, computer).

Apply Physical Education Concepts

  • Explore a variety of new physical activities for personal interest in and out of the physical education class (i.e., unicycles, pogo sticks, skating, outdoor activities).
