The Libby Center's General
Vocational Education Program is a two-hour pull-out
program for district-wide
special education secondary students, who need prevocational
or general vocational experiences. Students participate
in a variety of vocational activities by completion
of various community service projects such as tray
favors for Meals on Wheels, pins and bags for Bloomsday,
stuffing envelopes for Spokane Youth Sports Association,
collating notebooks for Birth Place at Sacred Heart
Hospital, providing bound books to area preschools
made from recycled paper collected within Libby
Center; booklets for Spokane Fire Department, and
so on. Click

Steps
to Admission
- Student
is brought to the attention of the
Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) at
his/her home school. An education
Specialist or Student Case Manager
meets with student, referring teacher
and other appropriate school personnel
to discuss program or placement
options.
- Following
assessment of the student's needs
and a determination that the student
could benefit from participation
in either the General Vocational
Education or Libby Center Workshop
program, the home school MDT refers
the student to the Director at Libby
Center.
- The
Education Specialist or Student
Case Manager and the Libby Center
MDT, consisting of the director,
the workshop manager, the General
Vocational Education teacher and
other appropriate personnel, discuss
options for the student. The Libby
Center director and MDT make the
placement decision.
- If
the student is accepted for placement,
appropriate staff is assigned to
plan and complete the student's
