SPS 3-8 Math Adoption

After much discussion among Superintendent Shelley Redinger and her Leadership Team, it has been decided that the grades 3-8 math adoption process must be extended into the following school year with no textbook adoption occurring this spring.

There are several reasons to slow down the current process. First, some textbook materials under consideration are not yet available for review. District officials also need to make sure there are many viable textbook options aligned to the Common Core State Standards. Publishers are still in the process of creating those materials.

“The math adoption committee’s intense level of scrutiny over math materials has been exactly the kind of work needed to make sure SPS is investing in materials that will support a viable and cohesive curriculum for our students,” said Assistant Principal on Special Assignment Wendy Watson. “We also have to be sure our investment in resources matches our district math goals.”

The months of hard work put in by the committee already this year, in addition to the data collected from the community survey and forums, has generated valuable information that will be integrated into the continuation of this process next year.
