Math Lesson 1: Coordinate Graphing

Good morning Team Colsen! Ready for your first official Coronacation math lesson?

We are going to begin with coordinate graphing. You willl need:

paper for notes

pencil

You will be adding the notes to your binder and we will be using the 2-column cornell format you are familiar with. Ready?

Here is an example to show you how to set up your paper for your math notes.

After you have your paper set up, play this video and write in the definitions for the vocabulary words.

Put your notebook paper in your binder. Do it now so you don't forget!

The next couple of links are going to be some games and activities where you can practice graphing. Remember, the coordinates are always (x,y). Use the alphabet to remind yourself which one comes first!

Billy the Bug
You may have to click on the Adobe Flash Player icon in the corner and "allow" flash, but it should work. Follow the directions and move the bug to the coordinates given.

Looking for the Top Quark
Click on "large grid" and "computer", then "I'm ready, let's start." You will choose coordinates to hide each of your quarks. Then enter a name for yourself and click on "I'm ready, let's start." See if you can beat the computer!

Graph Points
This one is pretty straight forward. They will give you a point for you to type in the coordinates OR they will give you coordinates for you to place the point. Watch the top right corner for your score to see how accurate you are!

Locate the Aliens!
You will probably need to "enable" and "allow" flash, but then you can use the grid to identify the coordinates of the aliens.

You have two minutes to put the soda bottles in their correct places on the coordinate plane. "Stock the Shelves is a fun way for students to reinforce their skills in using a coordinate plane.
