Purpose:  MAPS exists so that all students develop stronger and more positive feelings of connectedness to school, their academics, the instructors with whom they work, their classmates, and their own futures.

History:  After an examination of data around Tiger students – their demographics, their performance on various district and state assessments and within our own school structure – LCHS teachers opted to explore ways to address troubling gaps discovered in student opportunity and achievement while simultaneously offering enrichment and opportunity for high-performing students. Ultimately, they determined that creating a structure through which students could be more systematically known and attached to school had potential for helping all students be more successful. A year-long dialogue about how best to institutionalize a model for advisory at LC took place and in January of 2011 a weekly, grade-level-based advisory model was adopted for implementation in the fall of 2011.

Goals:  LCHS Staff identified four goals for MAPS; Personalization, Participation, Performance and Planning. Curriculum for each grade-level cohort will focus on supporting these goals in a recursive manner throughout a four-year sequence. A reduction in the rate of dropouts from our high school as well as an increase in GPA and credit attainment should be realized. Student anecdotal reporting and hard data will be gathered around MAPS’ impacts.

Outcomes:  All graduates of Lewis and Clark High School should leave with a diploma that represents the successful completion of rigorous coursework that supports the pursuit of any student-selected, post-high school option, including but not limited to; direct-to-career pathways, two and four-year college programs, military enlistments, or vocational preparatory programs. Our graduates should have the skills and knowledge to successfully enroll in and complete their chosen pursuit without remediation.
