• Description: 

    The NEWTech Pharmacy Technician program, a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board recognized training program, introduces students to the skills necessary for entry-level positions in retail, hospital and mail order pharmacies. Students will learn how to process prescriptions, prepare IV medications, order and stock medications as well as operate and troubleshoot automated drug dispensing systems. This program will provide a foundation for students who want to pursue a career as a pharmacy technician or pharmacist.

    IN THIS PROGRAM YOU WILL:

    • Learn how to classify various drugs.
    • Learn to interpret and process prescriptions.  
    • Perform pharmacy calculations related to measurements, dilutions, dosages and conversions.   
    • Learn the foundations of pharmacy assisting (pharmacy compliance, patient confidentiality, applicable laws and employability skills)

    Any combination equal to 3.0 credits (1.5 max per semester)
    1.0 Lab Science (.5 max per semester)

    3.0 Occupational or General Elective (1.5 max per semester)

    • National Pharmacy Technician License (18 years old, Test taken outside NEWTech)*

    • Access to quizlet (phone is best/computer is fine)  

    • Approximately $21 for fees throughout the year (Name tags ($4), CPR certifications ($6), pins ($11), ectlicensing $70 and Testing $130 is extra) Financial Aid is available through the business office
