If you are doing college level work in an Advanced Placement (AP) or Honors course, taking an AP examination may be of value to you. Taking an exam may offer the following benefits:
  • Exemption by your college or university from beginning courses and permission to take higher level courses in certain fields;
  • Academic credit for exams taken;
  • Tuition savings; and
  • Eligibility for honors and other special programs open to students who have received AP recognition.

Most AP examinations include multiple choice and free response (essay or problem solving) sections. Multiple-choice questions require you to select the correct answer from several choices. Free response questions require you to organize your knowledge and write clear, coherent answers.

Grades on the Advanced Placement examinations are reported on a five-point scale:

Extremely well-qualified . . . . . . . . . . 5                        Possibly qualified . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2

Well-qualified . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4                        No recommendation . . . . . . . . . . . . .1

Qualified. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3

Your AP grades are reported in July to your college (upon your authorization) and your school. If you choose not to submit your AP test results to your school, you may suppress that grade or cancel it entirely.

Print out the following forms, fill out, and bring with a check to the Business Office to register for the AP tests.

      AP Registration 2013       Parent/Guardian Elective Course or Program Student Transportation Agreement

The fee for each Advanced Placement test for the 2013 session is $89, fee waivers are available for those who qualify. Fee reductions are available for those who qualify, reducing the amount to $5. For an AP test fee reduction, please obtain a student verification form from the Business office or your counselor.

Spokane Public Schools will not be providing transportation for the AP Exams. Transportation is the responsibility of the Parent/Guardian or you, the student.  If you transport yourself, you have a signed Parent/Guardian Elective Course or Program Student Transportation Agreement form and return it with the AP Exam registration. YOU CANNOT TRANSPORT YOURSELF WITHOUT THIS AGREEMENT ON FILE.

AP Test registration ends Friday, March 22.  No fees will be collected after that date.

No refund requests will be accepted after April 30, 2013.  The refund will be made minus the fee of $13 the College Board charges for each test ordered but not used.

Please take your registration receipt with you to the test site.

If you have any questions regarding the Advanced Placement program or the examination opportunities, please contact your counselor or me at any time.

Sincerely,
