PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

 

What Advantage Do I Have, if I Pursue Pre-Apprenticeship While in High School?

  • With completion of all required coursework and work shops, you will be awarded points to be applied toward entrance into the formal apprenticeship program of your choice following high school graduation.

Why Apprenticeship After Graduation?

  • You earn as you learn! Beginning wages of $9 to $21 depending on apprenticeship.
  • Various apprenticeship groups to choose from.
  • Efficient way to learn skills.
  • Learning is planned and organized.
  • Upon completion, even higher wages.
  • Opportunity for career employment and advancement locally, regional and nationally.

How Do I Get Started?

  • Talk to your teacher or school counselor to see if this opportunity is right for you.
  • Fill out the Student Pre-Apprenticeship Application and schedule an interview with the appropriate teacher.
  • Enroll in the CTE or Skills Center classes that are required during high school.

What’s Required During High School?
Take a minimum of two semesters in any combination:

High School Skills Center
Woods Construction Technology
Metals Welding
Materials Processing  
Drafting (AutoCad)  
  • Three years of math including Integrated 1 and Integrated 2
  • Workshops and industry experiences while in high school
  • Portfolio

Additional preferred class:

  • Integrated Math 3

Course titles may vary school to school. The apprenticeship group will determine final evaluation of course work.

Industrial Safety Career Planning*

*May be an integrated part of another class or course.

Industry and Technology Workshops - total of 14 hours

Apprenticeship & Labor Relations Lasers
Safety Equipment & Supplies Hydraulics
Fasteners Pneumatics

Apprenticeship Experiences - minimum of 2 hours each, in minimum of 5 areas

Brick Masons Laborers
Commercial Carpenters Painter & Allied Trades
Commercial Roofers Plumbers
Concrete Finishers Residential Carpenters
Drywallers Sheetmetal Workers
Electricians Tile Setters
Iron Workers Operating Engineers

On the Job Worksite Learning Experience - 9 weeks or 80 hours minimum
