One of the biggest changes in a student’s life at this age is the process of changing from a desk for storage of materials to a hall locker.  Teachers across the district have developed a study skills program for our students which will support their efforts to work with a variety of teachers and consistently bring the right materials to class from their lockers.  To get off to a successful start at Salk, the following materials are needed:

  1. Standard three-inch 3 ring binder.

  2. No. 2 lead pencils (at least two for starters).

  3. Blue or black ink pens (those with erasable ink and erasers are recommended).

  4. Six-inch ruler or straight edge.

  5. Colored pencils.

  6. Pencil bag (one that snaps in the binder helps keep all the materials together).

  7. Gummed eraser.

  8. Paper for notebook binder - white 8-1/2 x 11 ruled.

  9. Index tab dividers for notebook (package of eight).

  10. Packet of 3 x 5 lined index cards.

  11. Four, three hole punched notebooks for Math notes. (one per quarter)

  12. Graph paper - 4 squares per inch

  13. TI-83/TI-84 graphing calculator optional or TI-30 scientific calculator required

  14. Angle ruler (available in Bookroom)

  15. Small pencil sharpener

  16. Student Planner (purchase in Bookroom)

  17. Two 8 ½ x 11" spiral notebooks one each for English and Science

  18. 2" binder with front plastic insert and inside pockets for English

  19. Safety scissors

  20. High-lighters/3 colors

These materials will be used in all of your student’s classes.  Please note that some teachers may require other specific materials for a particular class.  Thank you for your help and support in ensuring your son’s/daughter’s academic success.
