Myself and Others:
In the Myself and Others learning experiences, children
look at themselves and their classmates; they gather information
about characteristics such as height, eye color, and hand
size; and they explore their similarities, differences, and
variations. These learning experiences help to create a positive,
supportive atmosphere in which children can realize and appreciate
that although each of them is unique, they all share many
similar characteristics.
Trees: In the Trees
Module systematic investigations bring students to a better
understanding of trees’ place in school and in the community,
and provide some solid experiences on the way to understanding
all plants.
Seeds: The students
will be actively engaged in observing, comparing, exploring,
and describing important ideas related to the structure and
function of seed and plant parts. They will observe diversity
among seed types and how they travel. They will also observe
similarities among the seeds in the germination events growth
and development. Of particular significance will be the changes
in the plant over a time period as it germinates, grows, and
differentiates.
Animal Studies: This
unit of study is closely linked with the learning goals in
the Myself and Others, Trees, and Seeds modules. Students
will be actively observing, describing, comparing and communicating
information about both the characteristics of animal(s) they
are studying and the changes and interactions occurring during
the growth and development life cycle.
