| The Envision program began in January 2004. As of June 2007, 681 students have contributed over 6,854 hours of service to the Spokane community and have reduced 1,616 days of suspension.
Spokane Public Schools’ Envision program is modeled on a set of concepts collectively known as restorative practices. The Envision supervisor assigns community service opportunities at local non-profit agencies to middle school and high school students who have been suspended from school. Community service is performed after school or on weekends in place of a short suspension or during the week to reduce a longer suspension. Four hours of service eliminates one day of suspension. The primary goal of the Envision Program is to keep students in school while holding them accountable for their actions in a restorative framework. Envision preserves instructional time for students and the school district, as well as enhancing student engagement in the community.
