Mentoring Students in Spokane Public Schools

Spokane Public Schools encourages community members to volunteer with a local mentoring organization to mentor children.  Organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Mentoring Children of Promise, and Gonzaga University’s Campus Kids recruit, screen, train and support mentors who provide a valuable service to the children of our community.

A successful mentor is one who is a caring and committed adult role model in a young person's life.  A mentor fosters supportive relationships between children and adults that enhance children's self-confidence.  Students with mentors are less likely to resort to violence, more likely to have better relationships with their peers and more likely to increase their academic performance in school.
