Direct Service

Individuals are required at certain times throughout the year to work at community organizations different from their normal assignment.  This is in addition to normal activities to allow member to gain a better understanding of the community in which they are serving.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day Service Project at the Peaceful Valley Community Center
All AmeriCorps members perform direct service on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. In the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. and his dream of a united community, part of the Ready*Corps team spent January 21 at River Park Square in Spokane staffing an information table for the MLK service fair. The other part of the team helped at a local community center with various activities including the remodeling their kitchen area with new washable wall coverings. Other members created safety kits for homeless men and women that included toothbrushes and toothpaste, new socks, soaps and hygiene products. We had over 40 different AmeriCorps members from other local agencies help with the service at the Peaceful Valley Community Center this year.
