SPOKANE FOR KIDS

Updated 6-2006

For the most current information and applications: State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP)

Over the last six years, the “Spokane for Kids” program has reached out to thousands of families and assisted hundreds of children in accessing health care coverage.
Although outreach specialists are no longer available, Spokane Public Schools is committed to improving the health of each child in our school district.  We know that healthy children make better students and more productive adults.  Children without health insurance are absent more often than their peers and frequently have conditions that can be treated.  Theses absences interfere with classroom participation and effective learning.

To continue our support of families interested in applying for Medicaid Health Insurance (free) and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (low cost health insurance), applications will be available to families at all schools in our district.  The two-page applications can be mailed in or returned directly to DSHS which processes the information and determines eligibility.

Type of services covered by Medicaid and CHIPS programs:
-Doctor and nurse visits                           -Eye glasses and hearing aids
-Hospital and emergency room fees        -Physical and speech therapy
            -Dental Care                                             -Family planning
            -Prescriptions                                           -Sports physicals
            -Immunizations                                        -Counseling

If you are interested in no-cost or low-cost health insurance for your child, please stop by your neighborhood school and pick up an application.
