WORK STUDY PROGRAM
The Spokane Public Schools' Work Study Program hires college students to
work in various locations throughout the District. Several positions are
available during the year, including tutors, classroom assistants, and
clerical assistants. The program is a valuable asset providing countless
hours of assistance to schools as well as other support locations.
Work study employees are given a designated amount of money to earn each
semester/quarter and can work a maximum of 19 hours per week. Employees
are not to exceed the amount approved by the college or university they
attend.

Specific Information for Work Study Program Applicants
- Contact the financial aid office at the college/university to determine
eligibility.
- Obtain an eligibility form from the financial aid office at your college
and then call Vicki
Gorder at the number above to schedule an orientation.
Specific Information for District Principals/Supervisors
- Work Study employees report to their assigned work location after
attending orientation and clearing security.
- Employees will have a "green" copy of the State Work Study
Application Form. This form must be signed by the principal/supervisor
and returned to Student Services.
- The principal/supervisor or their designee must sign time sheets and
submit them to Vicki
Gorder, Student Services Specialist, to be received no
later than 5 p.m. on 10th of each month.
- The principal/supervisor shall require each Work Study employee to
sign in and out at the site each day.
General Information
- Work Study employees are hired as assistants and should only be placed
in positions where they assist a regular District employee.
- Work Study Employees shall not receive or accept any
work assignment which would allow unsupervised access to students.
- Work study employees cannot be assigned to any of the following duties:
- Unsupervised one-on-one tutoring
- Transporting students without another staff member
- Escorting students without another staff member to bathroom, health
room, or home
- Unsupervised detention monitor
- Work Study employees shall not work in excess of 19 hours per week.
- Payment for hours worked beyond the semester/quarter award amount
will become the responsibility of the work site.
- Work Study employees are paid once a month on the last working day
of the month.
- The pay period for the Work Study Program is from 8th of the month
to the 7th of the following month.

COMPLETED
TIME SHEETS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED UNTIL
THE FOLLOWING MONTH AND EMPLOYEES WILL NOT BE
PAID DURING THE CURRENT MONTH. |
