June 2006 News and Updates Oh my! Such a lot to cover … maybe you want to take notes! First, we'd like to thank all of you who have worked so hard and been so flexible during our wild and wooly month of May. Yes, it was incredibly busy. Many of you were woken up early (really early) and sent hither and yon as we did our darnedest to fill jobs. Many of you who are certificated helped us by subbing in subjects that are outside your area of endorsement and subbing at grade levels that you don't usually teach. Special recognition to those of you who graciously let us move you several times a day often teaching during prep periods; your good-natured willingness to pitch in was noticed. You have been terrific and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Right now September seems such a long way off … but we all know that the summer will zoom by in a flash. There are a couple of housekeeping duties that you'll need to attend to and then you're free as a bird to enjoy the glorious Spokane summer. 1) If you have received a Letter of Assurance you need to drop by Security on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday between June 15 and August 18, 2006 to obtain a new ID badge for the 2006-2007 school year. Due to remodeling on the 3rd floor of the District Administration building the Security offices will be located in the conference rooms on the 1st floor. Check with the receptionist when you come in and she'll point you in the right direction. You'll need to bring your 2005-2006 ID badge in order to exchange it for your shiny new badge. A $2.50 replacement fee will be charged if your photo ID is lost, stolen, damaged, or if you have a name change 2) If you move, please notify us so that we can make sure your mail gets delivered to the right address. 3) If you get hired, please notify us so that we don't inundate you with calls for work. 4) Check your certificate for an expiration date! We cannot allow you in the classroom without a current valid Washington State Teaching Certificate. Payday … everybody's favorite day of the month … The June, July and August paychecks will be distributed from the Administration Building, N. 200 Bernard Street from 8:00am-2:30 pm in the fishbowl boardroom on the first floor (turn left as you enter the building and you're there). As always, identification is required. Here is the link to the payroll direct deposit form if you wish to use that service: Payroll Direct Deposit Form Paydays during the summer are as follows:
If you don’t want to be tied down to Spokane to pick up your check, consider signing up for direct deposit. Forms can be found on the district web site (www.spokaneschools.org), Payroll department, Payroll forms. Please remember that to be considered for long-term substitute positions or regular employment, you must keep your applicant file up-to-date. In addition, we have a large number of positions that are filled the last week of August with long-term substitutes and last-minute hires. Any applicant file questions should be directed to the applicant specialists Norma Cantu or Cindy Blair (normac@spokaneschools.org or cindyb@spokaneschools.org) Please be aware that while the last week of August is a great vacation time for MOST people, it is a busy hiring time for education folks! You may wish to plan your vacation accordingly. If you are going to be out of town during the last two weeks of August please mark your SubFinder calendar! SubFinder will be calling to set up subs for the 2006-2007 school year, don’t miss out on September jobs! Clerical substitutes need to be aware that there are clerical jobs that crop up during the summer, thus if you are not available to work and don’t want to have unremitting calls from SubFinder you must maintain your availability calendar. We don’t yet have a definitive calendar for the 2006-2007 school year. We know that the first day of school will be Tuesday, September 5. Spring break is scheduled for April 2-6. Other than those two dates the rest of the year hasn’t been set. As soon as the calendar is available we will post a link from the Substitute webpage. Stay connected! We will continue to post News and Updates right here in July and August. You have our promise that you’ll find thrilling tales of substitute intrigue revealed right here on the first of each month. Okay, perhaps we’re indulging in the tiniest bit of embellishment (some might say baloney). We will do our best to make certain that whatever information you’ll require to start out the new year will be right here … how about that? Not quite as blood stirring as spine tingling tales of adventure, but darned useful! Archived Updates
