ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM -
For Parents
Dear New Student: Welcome to the English Language Development Newcomer Center at Ferris High School. All high school age English Language Learners begin their education in Spokane with a semester at the Newcomer Center. At the Newcomer Center you will study English, the geography of the USA, mathematics, and fitness. You will earn high school credits, and learn about life in the USA as you start learning English. We want you to have a successful start to your education in America. A good education is the key to a successful life in America. If you live outside the Ferris High School area you will ride a city
bus to Ferris High School. The Newcomer Center will give you
a bus pass so you can ride the city bus to school. Please write down
your name, address, and phone number on the enclosed card. If you cannot
find the right bus, show this card to a city bus driver or Spokane
Transit employee and they will help you find the right bus. After
a semester at the Newcomer Center, you will transfer to the high school
nearest your home. You will ride a school bus or walk to your high
school. At your high school you will have an English Language Development
teacher who will help you continue to learn English and earn credits
to graduate from High School. Sincerely, Victorya Rouse All newcomer students will carry and understand this information sheet:
