Schools Out Washington (SOWA) - SOWA manages the Refugee School Impact Grant for Washington State and the RSIG allows Spokane Public Schools to provide supplemental services to the 100’s of refugee students attending SPS. These services include after school Homework Centers, Community Involvement nights, GU Summer Language Camp, translation/interpretation services and more services to communities/students such as the Burmese, Kirundi, Iraqi, Cuban, Liberian, Russian speaking student and parent communities.

World Relief-Spokane's Refugee Resettlement Organization - WR works in close partnership with SPS in providing school services and parent communication to Spokane’s refugee communities. WR also conducts the Refugee Project Simulations for SPS employees and students

Whitworth College - “Jan. Term” students from Whitworth in the teacher education programs often volunteer in ELD classrooms to gain valuable cultural experience in working with ELL students. Also, SPS employees participate in Whitworth’s teacher training and ESL endorsement programs. The ELD program in SPS has student teachers from Whitworth, many of whom later become employees after earning proper endorsements, certificates and work experience.

EWU - SPS employees participate in EWU’s teacher training and ESL endorsement programs. The ELD program in SPS has student teachers from EWU, many of whom later become employees after earning proper endorsements, certificates and work experience. In the Fall of 2008, SPS ELD will welcome the help of Chilean exchange student teachers as they work in the ELD classrooms to offer extra support to students at the Ferris Newcomer Center and other ELD school locations.

Gonzaga University - “GU Language Camp” is conducted by GU students and SPS ELD teachers for over 100 SPS students and parents as they gain English proficiency in a fun Summer setting in July. Also, SPS employees participate in EWU’s teacher training and ESL endorsement programs. The ELD program in SPS has student teachers from EWU, many of whom later become employees after earning proper endorsements, certificates and work experience.
