K-6 LITERACY CURRICULUM & PROGRAM GUIDES COMMITTEE

Beginning in March, a K-6 Literacy Curriculum and Program Guides Committee will start work on revising the reading curriculum guides, developing the writing curriculum guides, and developing grade level literacy program guides. The work of the committee initially requires reading current research in best teaching practices and in the processes of reading and writing, and will finalize with the drafts of the literacy guides inclusive of a time-bound framework. Ultimately, once the work of the committee concludes, the K-6 literacy curriculum and program guides will be used by other coordinators to embed the reading and writing GLEs throughout the content areas.

Goals

1. Review reading curriculum guides; blend reading and writing curriculum guides
2. Review and rewrite the Elementary Reading and Writing Program Guides into one literacy guide per grade level
3. Design, review and/or rewrite units of study for reading and writing; time-bind by month
4. Create template for weekly lesson designs
5. Review and create formal, informal and diagnostic assessments
6. Provide user-friendly document for implementing literacy GLEs across all content areas
