TARGETED ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

Targeted Assistance Schools in Spokane Public Schools:

Garry Willard

The purpose of Targeted Assistance Schools is to provide services to eligible students who are most at-risk of failing to meet the state's challenging performance standards and the district's learning goals.  Schools must determine which students are most at-risk and target services to those identified children.  Parents must provide permission for service.

Each Targeted Assistance school is required to have a school plan that addresses:

  • Effective and researched practices.
  • Greatest need criteria.
  • Grade levels and subject areas to be served.
  • Coordination with basic education to support learning goals for identified students.
  • Assessments to support and guide instruction.
  • Inclusionary practices.
  • Extended time activities.
  • Professional development activities.
  • Promoting parent involvement and building capacity for parents to be involved.
  • Coordination with other educational services.
