| Welcome to the 2007-08 school
year at Spokane Public Schools!
This is my first year as superintendent, and my 33rd year working for
Spokane Public Schools. Having spent so much time here in different capacities,
I can honestly say that we are better than we’ve ever been. Our goal,
however, is to be the best school district in the country. Take some time
to visit one of our schools and learn how we are preparing our students
for their future. Look at the curriculum we teach and see how it prepares
students for rigorous state and national tests. Observe our teachers and
support staff as they create a climate of learning with a focus on the academic
success of each child.
Our staff is dedicated to making our schools great places to learn, through
a focus on building supportive, positive relationships in a culture of academic
excellence. All of us – including cafeteria workers, custodians, instructional
assistants, safety specialists, computer technicians, teachers, administrators,
office and other staff – are a team focused on helping students learn.
Thanks to the community’s support of our 2003 facilities improvement
bond, we continue to improve learning environments for students. This year
we will continue the modernization of John R. Rogers High School and begin
work on the renovation of Shadle Park High School. Safety, security and
technology upgrades, in addition to several smaller capital improvement
projects, will occur throughout the district.
We are well aware that we can’t accomplish all we’d like to
by ourselves. We rely on the strong partnership we continue to build with
businesses, families and community members to help support our students.
More than ever before, we are working to ensure success for every student
who is part of our Spokane Public Schools family.
Sincerely,
Nancy J. Stowell, Ph.D.
Superintendent
