General Information

We are eager to welcome new families to Spokane Public Schools!

What if my address is within one school’s boundary, but I want to attend a different SPS school?

Spokane Public Schools attempts to accommodate all transfer requests, but they are subject to several considerations, including staffing constraints and the school’s enrollment capacity.

How to do it:

1.    Fill out a Special Transfer Request Form
For elementary-seventh graders – available at the student’s assigned school
For eighth graders – available during registration at the student’s middle school
For ninth-11th graders – available at the student’s assigned high school

2.    Return the completed application by March 31 to the student’s assigned school – NOT the school he        or she hopes to transfer to

Washington state law provides that students of school employees be allowed to attend where their parent works. Siblings of students already attending the requested schools will have priority over other applicants. All others who submit their transfer request forms by March 31 will be entered, if necessary, into a lottery for available spaces at their desired school.

Students hoping to transfer into Spokane Public Schools from other districts will be placed after all Spokane Public Schools students are transferred.

Notification:

Students will be notified no later than May 15 whether their request has been approved, or if they have been placed on a waiting list. Students should not assume their request has been approved until they receive a letter of approval.

If students on the waiting list cannot be placed at their desired school by the end of the first week of school, they should plan to attend their assigned school.

Requests that are not approved can always be appealed.
