Welcome to the 2008-09 school year at Spokane Public Schools!
Our goal at Spokane Public Schools is to help all students succeed at each grade level and graduate from
high school ready for whatever path they decide to follow next. To best support all students, we have been
dedicated to the transformation of our district:
- From a focus on the academic success of some students to the academic success of ALL students.
- From teachers working in isolation to teachers working in collaborative teams
- From a hierarchy of decision-makers to a learning community of professionals.
- From a focus on teaching to a focus on learning.
- From “one size fits all” programs to programs designed to fit the diverse needs of students.
Our staff is dedicated to making our schools great places to learn. We believe we can ensure this by
building supportive, positive relationships in a culture of academic excellence. All of us – including
cafeteria workers, custodians, instructional assistants, safety specialists, computer technicians,
teachers, administrators, office personnel and other staff – are a team focused on helping students learn.
We need one more partner in our work and that very important partner is YOU. The success of our education
system depends on our ability to continue building strong partnerships with businesses, families and
community members. All of us together can prepare our students for their future.
More than ever before, we are working to ensure success for every child in the Spokane Public
Schools family. Welcome!
Sincerely,

Nancy J. Stowell, Ph.D.
