Care and Feeding of Your Flat Screen Monitor

As the cost of technology decreases, more and more people are purchasing flat panel monitors. As with CRT monitors there are a few things to keep in mindClick To Download when taking care of and operating your flat panel monitor.

To keep your flat panel display in optimal working order:

  • Do not block the ventilation holes.

  • Keep the flat panel display away from radiators or heat vents.

  • Keep the flat panel display out of direct sunlight.

  • Always clean the flat panel display with a soft cloth lightly moistened with water only.

  • Do not use any type of abrasive pad or glass cleaner; it will permanently scratch the LCD panel.

  • A major benefit of the flat panel monitor is that it uses less power than a regular monitor. You should avoid using a screen saver and use power management instead to prolong the life of the flat panel monitor. (This is opposite of what you learned to do with a regular monitor.) To enable power management, right click on any blank area of your desktop, select Properties, click on Screen Saver tab. Once here click on the Power button and set the "Turn off monitor" time to a recommended 60 minutes. Remember, as soon as you touch your mouse or the keyboard your monitor will spring to life.

Flat panel monitors have excellent clarity and less glare, which causes less strain on our eyes and makes using one for long hours a more comfortable experience.
