Mike
Loft, President, called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
Members introduced themselves. The June 2008 minutes were
not completed and will be approved at the October meeting.
The treasurer’s report was not
available. The PTSG has approximately $3,000. A detailed
treasurer’s report will be completed for the October
meeting.
Shawn Jordan, principal, discussed
staffing for this school year. Currently, the staff is
limited and some classes have up to 35 students. Shawn
wants to get class size down to a maximum of 30 students.
The projected school enrollment this year was 1890 students;
the currently school enrollment is 1944 students. Shawn
believes the extra students will entitle LC to more staff
and allow for smaller class sizes.
Shawn was asked if the school
schedule was created to avoid conflicts. Last year, some
school functions were scheduled during PTSG or Booster
meetings. Shawn said that he and his staff have worked on
reducing, and hopefully, eliminating conflicts between
school events and other meetings.
Shawn was asked if there was a
comprehensive sports schedule printed. Shawn said the
Greater Spokane League decided the cost of the printing was
too much, and they decided to have the schedule available on
their web site.
Shawn wanted to get parent
feedback on changing from printed newsletters to
electronic. He stated the school could save several
thousands of dollars in printing and postage if most of the
newsletters went out electronically. Shawn stated that to
help families without computers, the school has a class
where students refurbish computers. These computers are
available to low income families.
Barbara Grant reviewed the staff
appreciation ideas she had for each month. Barbara asked
for suggestions or ideas for each month throughout the
school year. Barbara said she would appreciate any help in
assembling the staff appreciation packages. The scheduled
distribution date for September is September 26, and anyone
interested in helping can meet September 24. For October,
the distribution date is October 29, and volunteers can meet
October 27 to help assemble the staff appreciation
packages. It was suggested that each month at the PTSG
meeting, the next date to assemble the packages will be
discussed, and people can sign up to help. To help with the
October Halloween packages, please bring a package of
Halloween candy to the meeting.
The freshman party is scheduled
for Wednesday, September 10th. Nancy Northey has
been organizing the event, and has everything done. Thank
you, Nancy!!
The Citizen Advisory Committee was
discussed. Lynne O’Brien-Person volunteered to be the LC
representative.
The Senior All Nighter party was
deferred to a later meeting.
The Drill Team yard sale is
September 20th.
The LC Open House is October 1st.
Because there is no PTSG meeting before the Open House,
volunteers are needed to help staff tables and talk to
parents at the open house about supporting the PTSG. There
will be an article in the current Eye of the Tiger
newsletter, and e-mails prior to the Open House. Please
contact Mike if you would like to help.
Topics for next month’s agenda
include: details of PTSG expenditures, topics of interest to
parents, and changing the meeting date or time. The next
PTSG meeting will be October 6, 2008.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:30
p.m.
