ADVANCED REPAIR / TEConnections: PROGRAM
OVERVIEW
Instructor
Approval Required
For students who have
completed Semester I with a 75% or better and who
want to continue in the repair curriculum. Lessons
follow A+ Certification Exam Guide, with exam
readiness as a primary goal. Coursework rigor
increases significantly, with detailed working
knowledge of hardware and operating systems
required.
Students will
continue to repair and ready for delivery the
E-1200’s being retired by the school district
through the TEConnections Program. Computer
preparations include installing the operating system
(Windows 98SE), installing and configuring Office
2000, and testing all hardware (CPU, RAM, Hard
Drive, Audio, Video, USB Ports, Keyboard, Monitor,
and Mouse).
In addition to “hands
on” machine preparation, student leaders will head
up teams to perform the following vital functions of
the program:
q
Community Outreach. This
function involves interfacing with the “student”
recipients and their families. Emphasis on “soft”
work skills (telephone skills, appointment
scheduling) as teams organize recipient training
sessions required by the giveaway program.
q
Recipient Training.
Students will demonstrate use of equipment while
delivering the computer to the end-user (user
training component).
q
Technical Writing.
Students will perform
technical writing as they develop and refine
end-user instructions and documentation to be
provided to end-users.
q
Marketing.
Students will perform
marketing activities as needed to target appropriate
recipients and maintain interest in the program.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP
Student leaders will
head up these committees and the teams will be
rotated to develop skills in all students. It is
expected that students taking this advanced course
will participate in the TEConnections Program,
and will be available for occasional after school
planning and recipient orientation. While it is not
a requirement, these extra activities will include
fun activities (pizza parties) and will enhance
student growth.
