Student Athletic Training - Sports Medicine
Mrs. Groves

The clinical class also offers a student the opportunity to become a Student Athletic Trainer. Here, students
are supervised by the head Athletic Trainer and the Coach. They are placed with a sports team for the
duration of that sports season. This can take place at any level, and the student is required to volunteer 150
hours of service for that team. The requirement for that student trainer includes using their medical
knowledge and expertise learned in the Sports Medicine class, overlooking those athletes while attending
daily practices and games. The greatest responsibility for that student trainer is to arrive prior to the start
time, so they have sufficient time to treat and tape our athletes before sending them out to competition.
Nearly every program has a licensed Physical Therapist that works directly for that team, and provides as a
great learning / teaching tool for our student athletic trainers as they learn and experience the field of athletic
training. These student trainers also earn their LC letter, numerals, and emblem for the sport they train for.
Below are a variety of links showing our Student Athletic Trainers with a short biography, a schedule of the
Varsity GSL games these students train for, and a list of Physical Therapists that work with many of our
sports programs.
