Vision:

The purpose of the Integrated 2 program is twofold.  The first goal being that all students are prepared mathematically so they can be successful on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL), which is administered in the spring of the sophomore year.  At the same time, the aim is to equip students with the mathematical foundations that are critical for upper level math courses.

Expectation:

In order to achieve the previously stated goals, it is a common focus here at Lewis and Clark that all students remain current in their grade level math class.  All students will meet a 70% standard to be granted credit for the respective class.

The following grading scale will be used to assign letter grades:

                                                90% - 100% = A

                                                80% -   89% = B

                                                70% -   79% = C

All students who fail to meet the established standard will be given a letter grade of F until the standard is met.

Grades will be calculated using the following rubric:

                                                Assessment = 60%

·         Unit Tests

·         Quizzes

Practice = 40%

·         Assignments

·         WASL Practice

·         Notebooks

·         Projects

·         Etc.

Every student will:

ü       Achieve 70% or greater overall in the class

   AND

ü       Achieve a 70% or greater on all Unit Tests

Interventions:

The following steps will be taken for students not meeting the standard due to lack of effort on practice work:

Step 1              Student conference and parent contact

Step 2              Tutoring center referral

Step 3              Administrative action

The following steps will be taken for students not meeting the standard due to poor performance on unit assessments:

§         Students who score below 70% but above 60% will be given the opportunity to correct their unit assessment.  The maximum score a student can achieve on the corrected assessment is 70%.

§         Students who score below 60% must also correct their unit assessment, retake the assessment, and score above 70%.  The maximum score a student can achieve on a retake is 70%.

§         Students who do not meet the 70% standard on the first retake will require continued intervention.  This intervention will be a joint pursuit that includes the student, teacher, parent and administrative team.

Test corrections and retakes must be done in class, or in the Tiger Center.

Classroom Expectations:

1.  When I am teaching or speaking, you are quiet and listening.

2.  Time given to you in class to work on your assignment is to be used for that purpose.

3.  You will respect others at all times.

4.  Come to class prepared (paper, binder, pencils, graph paper, calculator*, and your textbook—covered).

Attendance:

If you are absent it is your responsibility to find out what you have missed and to get the make-up work in to me within the time allowed (school policy is 2 days + the number of days absent).  If you know ahead of time that you will be absent from class, it is always better for you to get the work before the absence.  Late work will be accepted up until the unit test takes place.  After the unit test all make up work must be done through the Tutoring Center. You will not be allowed to make up any work you missed due to an unexcused absence.

Grading:

Notes:                                    Notes are not graded.  However, note taking is essential to your success in this class.  Be organized and ready to take notes daily.

Assignments:                        Assignments will be turned in daily, using a three phase process.    Phase 1: I will give you an assignment and you will complete it with a pencil (strictly enforced) showing all work.  Phase 2: the following day you will correct your assignment using a red pen and rework those problems you have missed (either in red pen on the same paper or in pencil on a new attached paper) showing all work.  Phase 3: turn in the assignment the day after corrections were made in class.  Make sure all original and correction work is stapled together and labeled correctly.

Each assignment is worth 4 points (3 points for completeness/ neatness/showing work, and 1 point for corrections).

Tests/Quizzes:                    There will be 1 to 2 quizzes per unit and Unit Tests will be given at the end of each unit.

Final Exam:                There will be a comprehensive final exam at the end of each semester.

Grade Posting:             Your grades will be posted periodically (with code numbers) in the class room so you can track your performance.  Even better, I will be making assignment calendars and grades accessible online via my website, “The Fisch-Dimension.”  Stay tuned to find out when that will be available.

Hall Passes:

You will receive 4 hall pass coupons at the beginning of each quarter to be used at your discretion.  If you need to use the hall pass for any reason you must redeem one of your hall pass coupons.  At the end of the quarter you will receive 2 extra credit points for each hall pass coupon that you did not cash in.  Lost coupons will not be reissued.

Food Policy:

There will be no food allowed in the classroom.  The only beverage allowed will be water in a clear, closed container.

welcome…it’s great to meet you!
