The Maharaja's Tiger |
LC Fieldhouse Grand Staircase |

On April 27, 2007, the Ronald
McDonald House Charities of Spokane Washington hosted the “Carousel on Parade”
auction and gala. The line up consisted of twenty-six fiberglass carousel
animals, which included fourteen ponies, five tigers and eight giraffes. The
carousel animals were displayed around various locations throughout Spokane
since September 2006. Twenty-two local artists from the surrounding Spokane area
painted these one of a kind pieces of art.
A group of LC parents combined
resources to bid and win this one of a kind piece of art for LC.
The Maharaja's Tiger: This was the most favored of pets owned by the
Maharajah. So pampered and secure in the affections of the great leader, he
allowed only the most beloved children, of the most favored wives, a ride.

This statue is a typical
representation of the goddess of the chase. She is clad
in a robe of many folds. With the right hand she reaches
backward, over her shoulder, to draw an arrow from her quiver.
Such a pose builds a curve around which the rhythm of the
whole figure is composed.

This is a representative figure of Athena (Minerva), goddess of wisdom and
"patron saint" of Athens. According to the myths, she sprang full-grown and
full armed from the brow of Zeus (Jupiter or Jove). Observe her
tessellated breast plate of goatskin; the aegis, decorated with the head of
Medusa; the sphinx upon the helmet; the serpent, which was sacred to her;
and the spear she brandished. |

Ease, balance, grace, and simplicity, all are suggested by the pose of the
figure and by the arrangement of his single garment, and they are outward
expressions of the philosopher's characteristic, clear thinking. |
