THE CHICANO STUDENT MOVEMENT OF AZTLAN (MECHA) AT EWU will have an important weekend conference at EWU from May 23-25. For $10 all students will have meals and lodging provided and attend the Conference, which will include live entertainment, cultural events, and workshops. See Mrs. Popham for a registration form. Deadline: As soon as possible.

 

NATIVE AMERICAN LEADERSHIP CAMP- The 2 day Leadership and knowledge retreat will be held from April 25-27. Registration forms are in the Career Center and must be mailed by April 18th.

 

LA CIMA WASHINGTON STUDENT LEADERSHIP- Summer camp, for students 9-12. $100 per delegate to attend LaCima Leadership Camp Bilingual Leadership Camp Experience, will be held in Chewelah, Washinton from June 23-27, 2008. QUESTBRIDGE COLLEGE PREP SCHOLARSHIP is a free program for outstanding low-income juniors, which helps to equip them to compete for admission at top ranked colleges. Contact www.questbridge.org or see Mrs. Popham for more info.

 

SACRED HEART JUNIOR SUMMER VOLUNTEER PROGRAM- Students 15-18 years

 (you must be 15 by July 1, 3008) are invited to apply for this summer program, which asks that you work one 4-hour shift per week. You may take two weeks off for a summer vacation. Call: 474-3166 or see Mrs. Popham in the Career Center.

 

NEW VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY- Free Rein Therapeutic Riding is an organization that helps individuals with disabilities to access recreational activities with horses. No horse experience necessary!! If you are interested and for more information, see Andrea Andrews, Room 003.

 

WSU- * Orientation is mandatory for all incoming students beginning this summer. Encourage your students to register early for Alive! www.alive.wsu.edu. There are scholarships available for students who have a FAFSA on file and qualify financially.

 

WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY has a one-week summer Cougar Camp for highly capable students, grades 9-12 from July 20-25. While at WSU, each student will have 27 different workshops to choose from . The cost of the camp is $575, which includes all meals, supplies, and activities. If interested, contact: cougarquest@wsu.edu or see Mrs. Popham in the Career Center.

 

JUNIORS- Nordstrom Scholarship Program is offering five scholarships in Alaska and Washington, in the amount of $10,000, to be paid to juniors who have made a substantial contribution to their community. Student must have GPA of 2.7 or above, complete essay, include a financial statement and personal statement. If interested, see Mrs. Popham. Deadline: May 31, 2008.

 

9-10-11th graders - The Spokane County Fair Junior Advisory Board applications are available in the Career Center. Meetings are held once a month and the term of office is one year. This is a good community volunteer activity.  See Mrs. Popham in the Career Center for more information.

 

CIVIL AIR PATROL MEETING

May 19th  7:00pm Felts Field, Moody Aviation Facility

This is sponsored by the Civil Air Patrol.  Your students will learn about

aviation and military careers with guidance from qualified male and female

professionals in the industry.  This is an exciting way for the kids to

conduct their senior culminating project, while doing something they enjoy.
