SEPTEMBER

EDUCATIONAL SERVICE DISTRICT 101- Has an opportunity for high school seniors to earn a $1,000 education award for 300 hours of community service. Service Projects of Community Significance. (SPoCS) is an AmeriCorps program that allows students to directly help their communities, meet the graduation requirement of a culminating project, and earn money for college or trade school. This education award is good for seven years and can be used to pay student loans or be applied directly to educational expenses.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 17 years old to participate
  • Males 18 or older must register with Selective Services
  • Complete a project pre-application
  • Complete a Spokane Service Team application and include copies of social security card, photo ID, and birth certificate
  • Attend an orientation (a parent must accompany those under 18)
  • Complete a paper or presentation on your experience as an AmeriCorps member

OCTOBER

WENDY'S HEISMAN TROPHY AWARDS- For all senior athletes who are dedicted and have become role-models for underclassmen. Criteria: , Must have a "B" average, compete in at least one sport, and complete application at: www.wendysheisman.com. DEADLINE: OCTOBER 1, 2007.

 

 

US BANK SCHOLARSHIP- Will distribute scholarships through a random-drawing process. Applications must filled our between October and February. Contact: usbank.comstudentbanking

 

COCA COLA SCHOLARS- Is dedicated to selecting well-rounded students from around the nation. Two hundred students will be awarded $10,000 and fifty will be awarded $20,000. Students meet all citizenship requirements. To apply : www.coca-colascholars.org Deadline: October 31, 2007.

 

NOVEMBER

PRINCIPAL’S LEADERSHIP AWARD- One senior from LC will be nominated for one of 100 awards $1,000 for leadership. Criteria: Must be in top 20% of graduating class, and plan to enter college or university in the fall of 2007. APPLICATIONS MUST BE RETURNED TO THE CAREER CENTER BY NOVEMBER 8, FOR CONSIDERATION. SEATTLE UNIVERSITY SULLIVAN LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP- Scholarships ranging from $9,000 to $15,000 per year, for up to four years for outstanding Seattle U. freshmen. Criteria: High GPA, leadership, and must be able to attend Sullivan Leadership Day on January 12, 2008. Deadline: November 15, 2007.  Applications are online at:www.seattleu.edu/sullivan.

 

 

DECEMBER

SOCIETY OF AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS-  Range in value from $1,000 to $10,000. To qualify, applicant must enroll in an engineering program. Online applications are available at: www.sae.org/students/engschlr.htm. DEADLINE: DECEMBER 1, 2007. (Must include a $5 processing fee).

 

 

WASHINGTON WINE ASSOCIATION- Is offering six scholarships from $500 to $2,000 to be awarded to students interested in the study of viticulture or enology (wine-making), and has financial need. Criteria: Five hundred word essay, application. Deadline: December 31, 2007.

 

 

JANUARY

Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship applications are now available in the Career Center and Student Office. This scholarship gives students the opportunity to graduate from college debt free. African American,American Indian/Alaska Natives, Pacific Islanders, and students of Hispanic origin are eligible to apply. Youmust have a Grade point of 3.3, and plan to attend college in the fall of '08. All paper applications must be postmarked by December 31, 2007, and all online applications must be submitted by January 11, 2008.

 

ELK MOST VALUABLE STUDENT AWARD- Over 400 scholarships from $1,000 per year up to $15,000 per year, for outstanding students. Criteria: Scholarship is 450 points, leadership is 350 points, and financial need is 200 points, for a total of 1,000 points. Deadline: January 11, 2008.

 

SAM WALTON COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP- $1,000 is available to interested graduating seniors. Logon to: www.scholarshipadministrators.net  for an application.  Deadline: January 14, 2008.

 

NASA SPACE GRANT SCHOLARSHIP- For seniors who wish to major in math, science, or engineering at the U of W. Awards are from $1,000 to $5,500 per year, for up to four years. MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY OF WASHINGTON GRANTS- $1,000- $3,000 for anyone who has or is a child of someone with multiple sclerosis who will be attending college for the first time. A personal statement is required. Deadline: January 15, 2008.

 

SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS- Six $4,000 scholarships open to Spokane seniors who plan to enter an engineering college next fall. Criteria: Minimum SAT levels are 600 for math, and 580 for the average of the new critical reading and writing tests.  GPA of 3.0 or higher and student must submit an essay on, “My interest in Engineering.  The application and essay must be typed. Deadline: January 16, 2008.

 

GSBA PRIDE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP- $350,000 (over 40 types of scholarships) for self-identified LGBT, members of LGBT families, or those who have been strongly supportive of the LGBT community, and have demonstrated a commitment to human and civil rights for all people. Criteria: Transcript, essays, and financial need statement. Deadline: January 25, 2008.

 

AMERICAN INDIAN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP-           For financially needy students with close ties to an American Indian tribe who will be enrolled full-time at a public or independent college or university next year. Criteria: Three letters of recommendation, transcript, and statement of intent to return to  service in an American Indian community. Deadline:  February 1, 2008.

FEBRUARY

POTLATCH FOUNDATION- $1,400 scholarships to students who live near a Potlatch facility (Spokane qualifies). Applicant must qualify to attend a school of higher learning (college, community college, technical school, etc.) Students must plan a two or four-year degree leading to a bachelor’s degree, meeting the approval of the Potlatch Corporation.  Deadline: Received by February 10, 2008.

 

W.A.V.E SCHOLARSHIP (Washington Award for Vocational Excellence) - LC will choose one senior to compete for tuition funding for four semesters or six quarters at a Washington State institution. The student may also use the award to for any valid educational expenses, such as books, supplies, room, board, and transportation. Criteria: Applicant must graduate having spent 360 hours in a single approved vocational program. Student must submit a statement of need and other essays. Deadline: Applications must be turned in to the Career Center by Monday, February 11, 2008. WASHINGTON STATE SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP- $2,000 for recipients attending four year, and $1,000 for recipients attending other post-secondary institutions. Criteria: Based on financial need, and student must be first-time entering freshman. Deadline: Application must be submitted between February 1, 2008 and March 1, 2008. BURGER KING SCHOLARSHIPS- $1,000 scholarships to all eligible seniors. Criteria: Must work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, maintain a 2.5 GPA, be actively involved in community activities and demonstrate financial need. Log on to: www.bk.com/scholars  Deadline: February 15, 2008.

SCHOLARSHIPS FROM INLAND NORTHWEST COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (INCF)- INCF manages more than 30 scholarship funds, helping students from the Inland Northwest attend colleges, universities and vocational schools. Scholarships may support students who plan to study a particular subject, attend a specific college/university, or are graduating from a specific school in the ten Eastern Washington counties.

ELKS VOCATIONAL GRANTS- Awards for students entering a two-year college for a vocational degree. This is not for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college. Criteria: Motivation, need, skills. 30 Grants from $800 to $1500.  Deadline: March 1, 2008.

WASA PEMCO 21ST CENTURY EDUCATOR'S SCHOLARSHIP- For seniors who plan to major in education. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Three winners will receive $1,000 a year for four years. UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO MULTICULTURAL SCHOLARSHIP- Renewable scholarship for four years. Approximately $4,500 per year for tuition and books. Criteria: Must be US citizen of a recognized ethnic background. You must declare a MAJOR in Agricultural & Life Sciences. Deadline: March 7, 2008.

 

SAMMY- GOT MILK? - 2008 SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR- Winners will receive a $7,500 college scholarship, and an invitation to Orlando, Florida to attend the SAMMY weekend. Five Criteria: Academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership, community service, and milk experience.  Apply online at: bodybymilk.com.  Deadline: March 9, 2008.

 

OFFICERS’ SPOUSES’ CLUB- For students who are dependents of military on: active duty, remote tour, legally retired, or deceased. Student must have GPA of 3.2, essay, and transcript. Deadline: March 14, 2008.

 

SEMI FOUNDATION TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP- Will award three $2,000 scholarships to high school and university applicants for the 2008/2009 school year. Criteria: Student must have GPA of 3.0 or better, must pursue major such as, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering. Deadline: March 15, 2008.

 

NYSTUEN EXCHANGE CLUB YOUTH OF THE MONTH AWARD- A possible $1,000 to $2,000 scholarship will be awarded locally. Criteria: Complete application and essay. Student must plan to attend WSU. Deadline: Completed application must be returned to the Career Center by March 19, 2008.

 

WASHINGTON STATE TRIAL LAWYERS ASSOCIATION JUSTICE ESSAY CONTEST AND PRESIDENT’S SCHOLARSHIP-

ESSAY: Three scholarships, from $2,000 to $3,000- for topic on, “What should the role of the civil justice system be when it comes to protecting children from lead paint in toys?”

PRESIDENT’S SCHOLARSHIP- $2,000 scholarship(s). Criteria: academic achievement, financial need, and a history of achievement despite life difficulties. Submit transcript, and other documentation. Deadline: March 21, 2008.

 

THE SOCIETY OF MILITARY ENGINEERS- $1,000 will be awarded to a senior who plans to pursue a degree in engineering, architecture, or other engineering related studies. Deadline: March 21, 2008.

 

GREATER SPOKANE SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNCIL’S 2005 ESSAY CONTEST-One, $1,500 scholarship and one $250 scholarship for essay on the student’s decision to remain drug free. Deadline: March 21, 2008.

 

BURGLAR AND FIRE ALARM SCHOLARSHIPS-For children of law enforcement and fire service personnel. In-state and national awards. Criteria: GPA, SAT scores, and essay. Deadline: March 28, 2008.    

 

EDUCATIONAL OFFICE PROFESSIONALS OF SPOKANE- Has one $600 scholarship available to a student who plans to explore a career in the field of Business such as Business and Office Technology, Computer Technology, Business Administration or Accounting. Criteria: Student must have GPA of 2.8 or above, and must show an aptitude/interest in pursuing a business career. Student must submit two letters of recommendation, and transcript. Deadline: March 28, 2008.

 

ASIAN AMERICAN YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE- $1,500 scholarship for this year’s seniors who previously attended the Asian American Youth Conference or will attend the Conference on May 9, 2008. Submit application, essay, resume and references. Deadline: is March 31, 2008.

 

WASHINGTON STATE PTA- $2,000 for students entering four-year colleges and $1,000 for students entering a community college or other secondary school. Criteria: Students with financial need who have demonstrated academic performance and community service. Deadline: March 31, 2008.

 

INLAND NORTHWEST DAIRY WOMEN-  One $500 scholarship to student pursuing a degree in Agriculture, Nutrition or Dairy Food Science, and who has a 3.0 GPA. Letter of recommendation, transcript, and application must be submitted. Deadline: March 31, 2008.

 

ALPHA DELTA PHI SCHOLARSHIP- For a MALE who enters the University of Washington. Criteria: Proven leader, committed to academic excellence. Over $100,000 will be given in scholarships. No deadline listed.

 

BANNER BANK/SPOKANE INDIANS-  Five, $500 scholarships. Criteria: Scholarship, leadership, community involvement, self-expression, motivation. Create a binder (up to 20 pages) with statement relating accomplishments, and objective of further education, educational history, and recommendation. Deadline: March 30, 2008.

APRIL

 

GLOBAL CREDIT UNION- MERLE BRUMGARD AND FOUNDERS AND PIONEERS SCHOLARSHIPS-  Four, $1,000 scholarships, two for students who are dependents of armed service personnel, living or deceased, and two for any deserving graduating seniors. Academics count for 60% of criteria. Student must belong to the Global Credit Union. Deadline: April 1, 2008.

 

HISPANIC BUSINESS/PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION- Is seeking applicants for scholarships for students planning to attend college next year. More than $37,000 has been awarded in the last 11 years. Criteria: Student must have GPA of 2.9 or above, must demonstrate involvement in the Hispanic/Latino culture and community, complete application, and submit an essay. See Mrs. Popham for more information. Deadline: April 4, 2008.

 

AMERICAN BUILDERS AND CONTRACTORS SCHOLARSHIP- $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to a child or dependent of a member. Criteria: Must plan to enroll in a construction industry program at a North Idaho or Spokane Community College. Deadline: April 4, 2008.

 

SYLVAN LEARNING CENTER- Has three, $500 scholarships for seniors who plan a career in education. Submit and essay, transcript, and letter of recommendation. Deadline: April 10, 2008.

 

SPOKANE ASSOCIATION OF CERTIFIED FRAUD EXAMINERS- $500 scholarship for a student pursuing a degree in accounting, law, criminal justice or fraud education. Deadline: April 15, 2008.

 

UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON NIKKEI ALUMNI-Six awards of $1,800-$3,000 to incoming students of Japanese ancestry. Deadline: April 15, 2008.

 

ESD 101 BISMARK TURNER SCHOLARSHIP-  For payment of tuition, books, entrance, and laboratory fees. There is $6,500 available for students in Spokane County. Criteria: Financial need. Submit application form, SAR (from FAFSA), transcript and letter of recommendation.  Deadline: April 15, 2008.

 

SEAMAR  FARM WORKER SCHOLARSHIPS- Over 50 scholarships to low-income high school seniors from Washington seasonal or migrant workers families. Students do not need to be high achievers. Deadline: April 18, 2008.

 

JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY- $1,000 scholarship for a student who attended Jefferson Elementary for at least grades 4-6. Deadline: Must be postmarked by April 18, 2008.

SPOKANE COMMUNITY COLLEGES (Either SCC or SFCC)- For students who have a 2.0. Submit copy of FAFSA, letters of recommendation, transcript, and essays. Deadline: Must be received by April 15, 2008.

 

AVISTA- The Women of Water Power Legacy will award several scholarships to sons and daughters of current, former, or deceased members of Water Power. Criteria: Scholastic achievement and extra-curricular activities. SPOKANE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION-  Three $1,000 scholarships for children of SEA members. Criteria: Scholastic ability, financial need, and participation in activities.  Deadline: April 28, 2008.

 

THE LINKS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS OF COLOR- From $500 to $1,000 to qualified students with a GPA of 2.75 or above. Criteria: Student must plan to further education, submit transcript, two letters of recommendation, and complete essay. Deadline: April 30, 2008.

 

 

MAY

DIGIPEN FIRST SCHOLARSHIP- Seven merit based scholarships to students who participated in First Team during their junior or senior year in high school. You must have participated in one full season on a FIRST Robotics Competition or FIRST Tech Challenge. Deadline: May 1, 2008.

 

HAMBLEN ELEMENTARY- $1,000 scholarship for a student who attended Hamblen Elementary for at least grades 4-6. Criteria: Complete application, essay, recommendations. Deadline: May 1, 2008.

 

JARVIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP- One or more, $1,000 awards to students who are active in an organized bowling league. Deadline: May 1, 2008.

 

THE SPOKANE SOUTH ROTARY RICK CHISHOLM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR TWO (2) LEWIS AND CLARK STUDENTS- Is available in the Career Center. One, $1,000 scholarship and one $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to LC seniors. Criteria: Must have 3.2 or above GPA, submit transcript, three references, narrative and resume of activities. Deadline: Completed application must be returned to the Career Center by 3pm on Wednesday, May 2, 2008.  See Mrs. Popham for an application.

 

EXCHANGE CLUB NYSTUEN SCHOLARSHIP- Approximately $2,000 will be awarded to a Lewis and Clark senior who plans to attend WSU in the fall. Criteria: Complete application, submit transcript, and essay. Deadline: Return completed application to the Career Center before May 2, 2008.

 

MULLAN ROAD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL- $500 scholarship for a student who attended Mullan Road for at least three years. Criteria: Complete application, transcript, essay, and recommendation letter. Deadline: May 2, 2008.

 

TEAM GRANT ELEMENTARY SCHOLARSHIP-One, $500 scholarship for a student who attended Grant Elementary School. Criteria: Fill out application, essays, transcript, and letter of recommendation.  Deadline: May 1, 2008.

 

NORTHWEST FOUNDATION FOR MAXILLOFACIAL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION- Scholarships of $500-$1,000 for tuition, fees, books, and room and board, are available to students who enroll in medical and/or dental undergraduate programs. Criteria: Transcript, three letters of recommendation, essay, and budget.

 Deadline: May 2, 2008.

 

HILLEL FOUNDATION- Scholarships for Jewish students who have financial need and plan to attend the University of Washington. Deadline: May 3, 2008.

 

COLLEGE SUCCESS FOUNDATION LEADERSHIP 1000- The Gate’s Foundation is providing $5,000 scholarships to low-income Washington residents, who will attend college in Washington State. Income levels are very liberal (a family of 3- can earn $62,000 and a family of 7 can earn $94,000). Other criteria: GPA of 2.75, complete application, submit financial aid form. Deadline: May 15, 2008.  

 

UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON DELTA UPSILON SCHOLARSHIPS- In the amounts of $1,000, $750, $500, and $250, for MEN who plan to enter the University of Washington. Deadline: May 15, 2008.

 

MORAN PRAIRIE ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP- $1,000  scholarship for student who attended Moran Prairie Elementary  fourth through sixth grades and: Complete the application form, submit two recommendations, write an essay, and enclose a transcript. Deadline: May 16, 2008.

 

JUNE

WSYSA DISTRICT 6 SOCCER SCHOLARSHIP-  Four $2,000 scholarships are awarded to seniors who commit to playing soccer in college. Criteria: Submit two letters of recommendation, and complete scholarship

application.  Deadline: June 1, 2008.

 

UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON SIGMA PHI BALANCED MAN SCHOLARSHIPS- In the amounts of $1,000,

$500, for a MALE entering the University of Washington. Deadline: June 1, 2008.

 

UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON SIGMA NU MEN’S SCHOLARSHIP- One scholarship for $5,000 tuition at the U of W, is open to any MALE student who is attending. Student must display good character, test scores, leadership, and curricular activities. Deadline: June 8, 2008.

 

UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON ALPHA DELTA PHI MEN’S SCHOLARSHIP- Several scholarships, ranging from $500 to $1,500 will be available to males who join the Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity at U of W. Deadline: No specific deadline listed.

 

ALPHA KAPPA LAMBDA BOOKS SCHOLARSHIP- $500 scholarship for a MALE who plans to attend the University of Washington, to be used for classroom books. Student must be a founding member of the AKL Fraternity. Deadline: June 15, 2008.

 

UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON KAPPA SIGMA FRATERNITY- In the amounts of $500 and $1,000 to an outstanding young MAN who plans to attend the University of Washington. Criteria: Transcript, personal statement, resume and more. Deadline: June 15, 2008.
